Self-fly Hire and Training Rates
It is our philosophy to provide flight training in a safe, professional and relaxed environment in as cost effective a manner as we possibly can -- you should certainly find us competitive. We will never ask you for advance payment on account. Nor will you find us charging premiums for weekend flying because, quite simply, our costs are the same regardless of when you fly. All we ask is payment by credit or debit card on completion off that day's flying.
Our experienced and carefully-selected instructors will make sure your training is as safe and as thorough as required, whilst making it as expedient as they can -- we realise time is money. Whether you want to hire an aircraft for an introductory lesson or for training as part of our courses, we will be able to assist you.
Pilot currency - self hire
You will need to have a checkout (a flight with an instructor where you are assessed on your general handling, take off and landing, familiarity on type, etc), if you:
- Have less than 100 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) and have not flown with Durham Tees Flight Training in the preceding 30 days
- Have more than 100 hours PIC and have not flown with Durham Tees Flight Training in the preceding 60 days
- You must also comply with our Flying Orders regarding the school’s regulations on matters such as weather, procedures, etc.

Height and weight restrictions
If you weigh more than 15 stone or are over six feet tall you may need to book a flight in the PA28 rather than our 152s. We will advise you.

Air experience flights at Durham Tees Flight Training
An air experience flight (introductory flying lesson) in an aeroplane is a superb way to experience the freedom of flight first-hand. It could be the start of a real aviation adventure and a possible future in the skies. If you go on to train with us, this flight time will be counted towards your licence.
It is a perfect way to find out for yourself that learning to fly really is for you, or makes a perfect gift for someone else.
There is no feeling quite like taking the control of an aircraft for the very first time and it is an experience everyone should have – at least once in their lifetime.
Here at Durham Tees Flight Training you can enjoy a flight in a Cessna 152 where there will just be you and your instructor in the aircraft. Or you could book a 4-seat Piper PA28 and share the experience with a friend or family member.
Aerobatic Experience
Alternatively you could book an aerobatic experience in either our Firefly aerobatic trainer, still used today for primary flight training of the UK armed forces or The Bulldog, an ex-RAF training aircraft, for the ultimate flying adventure. You will have 'hands on' experience flying our fully aerobatic aircraft, sitting alongside our experienced aerobatic training pilot, including barrel rolls and loops!
